Hybrid vs Petrol in the UAE: Which Saves You More?

Wheels Arabia Editorial · 6 min read

We crunched the numbers on AED 2.96/L Special 95 fuel and 30,000 km/year of driving. Here's when a hybrid pays back.

With UAE petrol prices floating between AED 2.85 and 3.10 per litre, the case for hybrids has never been stronger. A Toyota Camry Hybrid uses about 5.9 L/100 km vs roughly 8 L/100 km for a comparable petrol sedan — that's a saving of nearly AED 2,500 a year for the average driver.

For SUVs the gap is even bigger. The RAV4 Hybrid AWD uses 7.0 L/100 km and rivals like the petrol Tucson manage 8.8+. Over a typical 5-year ownership cycle that's AED 10,000+ in fuel savings.

Where petrol still wins: low-mileage city users, drivers who do mostly motorway cruising in the cooler months, and buyers who want a V8 feel.
